ABOUT US

Steer and Go Driving School – Terms and Conditions (Instructor Provision)

Steer and Go Driving School (“Steer and Go”) may, at its discretion, provide driving tuition either directly or through approved partner driving schools or instructors engaged under contractual arrangements with Steer and Go.

Where applicable, driving lessons may be delivered by a partner instructor acting on behalf of Steer and Go.

All partner driving schools and instructors are required to hold all necessary licences, approvals, and insurance coverage and to meet the same professional standards as those applied by Steer and Go.

By booking driving lessons, you acknowledge and agree that your contract for driving tuition is entered into between you, Steer and Go, and your allocated instructor, whether such instructor is provided directly by Steer and Go or through an approved partner arrangement. The substitution or allocation of instructors does not affect the validity or enforceability of this agreement.
Steer and Go reserves the right to allocate, substitute, or reassign instructors or partner providers as reasonably required, without prejudice to the quality or continuity of tuition.

Terms and Conditions

Eligibility and Licence Evidence

To be eligible for driving lessons with Steer and Go Driving School you must:

  • Be aged 17 years or over, or aged 16 if you receive the enhanced (higher) rate of Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
  • Hold a driving licence that is valid for use in the United Kingdom, which may be a provisional licence, a full UK licence, or an appropriate foreign licence recognised for driving instruction purposes.

You must provide the instructor with valid documentary evidence of your driving licence prior to the commencement of your first driving lesson.
If you do not provide this evidence, the instructor may refuse to provide the lesson. In such circumstances, the scheduled lesson shall remain chargeable.

All instructors operate as self-employed franchisees of Steer and Go Driving School.
The contract for the provision of driving lessons is entered into between you, Steer and Go Driving School, and the individual instructor, who acts in a self-employed capacity.

  1. You agree that you have chosen to undertake driving tuition. This agreement is made between you, us, and your Steer and Go Driving School franchise instructor.
  2. You agree that Steer and Go Driving School operates a waiting list for customers purchasing lesson services or intensive courses. Where there is no immediate availability in your area, you agree to be placed on a waiting list. Waiting times for lessons may range from two (2) weeks to twelve (12) weeks, depending on instructor availability, DVSA driving test availability, student availability, gearbox type (manual or automatic), and any other special preferences you may have.
  3. You agree that the Steer and Go driving school allows a waiting period of up to thirty (30) minutes for the instructor in the event of unforeseen delays, including traffic or similar circumstances.
  4. You agree that, in the event of a mechanical breakdown of the vehicle in which you are learning to drive, or for any other reason, the instructor may rearrange the driving lesson to a time that is convenient to both you and the instructor.
  5. You agree that the driving instructor cannot be held responsible for driving tests that are postponed or cancelled by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).
  6. Where payments are made directly to the instructor, Steer and Go Driving School accepts no liability for any act, omission, or failure by the instructor to perform their obligations under this agreement.
  7. You agree that cancellations must be made directly with the instructor at least two (2) working days before the scheduled lesson. A working day means Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays.to cancel a lesson you agree to either email or txt your instructor directly to cancel. Any lesson cancelled within two (2) working days of the scheduled appointment will be charged at your current lesson rate. If you fail to attend a lesson without giving notice, you will also be charged at your current lesson rate.
  8. You agree that Steer and Go Driving Instructor reserves the right to refuse or terminate a driving lesson if the learner driver is under the influence of alcohol or any other substance that would impair their ability to drive safely or otherwise contravene road safety laws. In such circumstances, the lesson will be treated as cancelled by you, and you will be charged at your current lesson rate. No refund will be provided.
  9. You agree that Steer and Go Driving School operates a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse, harassment, or violence, whether physical or verbal, directed at its staff or driving instructors. Steer and Go Driving School reserves the right to cancel your booking immediately if such behaviour occurs. Any lessons that have been prepaid at that time will be non-refundable. In addition, Steer and Go Driving School may refuse to provide any further lessons and may report any serious incident to the relevant authorities.
  10. You agree that the driving instructor reserves the right to withdraw their vehicle for a driving test without notice if they consider that you are not at a satisfactory standard to take the test. The instructor will provide a clear explanation for the decision and may recommend further lessons before the test is rebooked. If the instructor withdraws their vehicle, you will be responsible for any test fees or charges incurred as a result, and no refund will be provided for any lesson time or booking fees already paid. You agree that the instructor’s decision is final and binding.
  11. Steer and Go Driving School shall not be liable for any loss, cost, inconvenience, or delay arising from the cancellation or interruption of driving lessons due to mechanical breakdown, vehicle defect, or other unforeseen circumstances beyond its reasonable control. In such circumstances, Steer and Go Driving School may, at its discretion, arrange a replacement vehicle or reschedule the lesson, but no guarantee is given as to availability or timing.
  12. You acknowledge that Steer and Go Driving School will provide you with your allocated instructor’s telephone contact number for the purposes of all future communications relating to your driving lessons.
  13. If any issue cannot be resolved directly with your allocated instructor, you must contact Steer and Go Driving School. Steer and Go will use reasonable endeavours to investigate and address your issue within five (5) working days. Resolution times may vary depending on the nature of the issue, and no guarantee is given beyond this timeframe.
  14. Your allocated instructor will provide a dual-controlled vehicle that is roadworthy, clean, and maintained to a safe and tidy standard. Steer and Go Driving School makes reasonable efforts to ensure this standard is met; however, it shall not be liable for minor variations in cleanliness or unforeseen mechanical issues beyond its reasonable control.
  15. Instructor Conduct and Appearance. All allocated instructors will conduct themselves in a professional manner and maintain a smart and appropriate appearance at all times while providing driving tuition. Steer and Go endeavours to uphold these standards; however, it shall not be liable for minor variations in personal presentation beyond its reasonable control.
  16. Smoking Policy Steer and Go Driving School operates a strict no-smoking policy. Smoking is prohibited in all vehicles, on all premises, and during any driving lessons. Failure to comply with this policy may result in the immediate suspension or termination of lessons at the discretion of Steer and Go.
  17. Instructor Arrival and Lesson Cancellation. You acknowledge that your allocated instructor will send a text message when they have arrived at your designated pickup address. If you do not respond, the instructor will wait an additional fifteen (15) minutes. If you do not appear within this period, the lesson will be deemed cancelled, and the full lesson fee will be charged at the current lesson rate. Steer and Go reserves the right to enforce this policy to ensure fairness and scheduling integrity.
  18. Payment to Instructors. You acknowledge that Steer and Go Driving School accepts no responsibility for any fees paid directly to your allocated instructor. It is your responsibility to retain your appointment card or any other proof of payment when paying the instructor for lessons. Failure to provide proof of payment may affect your ability to dispute any payment-related issues.
  19. Customer Service Contact. For any issues or concerns that cannot be resolved directly with your allocated instructor, you should contact Steer and Go Driving School’s Customer Services team at Info@steerandgo.co.uk. Steer and Go will use reasonable endeavours to respond to your enquiry in a timely manner and address the issue in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.

Paying for Lessons – Pre-Paying with Steer and Go

Steer and Go Driving School operates a contact centre with no public access and a website that enables customers to purchase driving lesson packages with a Steer and Go-approved driving instructor. All driving lesson packages may be paid in advance using one of the following methods:

  • Online via credit or debit card at www.steerandgo.co.uk
  • Bank transfer
  • Telephone payment via credit or debit card on 07407 808080
  • By purchasing pre-paid driving lessons through Steer and Go, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms:
    • Upon completion of each driving lesson, the allocated instructor shall confirm to Steer and Go that the lesson has been delivered in full. Following confirmation, the corresponding payment will be released to the instructor.
    • In the event of any query, complaint, or dispute relating to a driving lesson, you agree to raise the matter with your allocated instructor first. If the matter cannot be resolved directly with the instructor, you must then contact the Steer and Go contact centre for further review and assistance.
    • Steer and Go reserves the right to withhold or delay payment to an instructor where a lesson is disputed, not delivered, or where there is evidence of misuse of the booking system.

Paying Your Instructor Directly
You may choose to pay for driving lessons directly to your allocated instructor, rather than through the Steer and Go platform. Your instructor will advise you of the payment methods they accept. Where you make payment directly to an instructor, you acknowledge and agree that:

  1. Steer and Go is not a party to the payment transaction and does not process, receive, or hold such payments.
  2. Any contract for payment is solely between you and the instructor.
  3. You are responsible for obtaining and retaining a receipt or other proof of payment.
  4. Steer and Go accepts no responsibility or liability for any payments made directly to an instructor, including, without limitation, issues relating to non-provision of lessons, cancellations, refunds, disputes, or chargebacks.

Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

Redeeming Pre-Paid Lessons

  1. You acknowledge that you and your allocated instructor are jointly responsible for agreeing on the timing, location, and duration of each driving lesson.
  2. You must notify your instructor of any circumstances that may affect your ability or entitlement to take driving lessons, including, but not limited to, the lack, suspension, or loss of a valid driving licence.
  3. Your instructor cannot guarantee availability at all requested times. It is your responsibility to agree and confirm lesson timings directly with your instructor.
  4. The price per hour for driving lessons may change. Lessons purchased prior to any price change will be delivered at the rate originally paid.

Cancellation Policy

You acknowledge and agree that a minimum of two (2) working days’ notice must be provided to your allocated instructor to cancel or reschedule a booked driving lesson. Failure to provide the required notice may result in the full lesson fee being charged. For the purposes of this policy, Saturdays, Sundays, and UK public holidays shall not be considered working days. Steer and Go reserves the right to enforce this policy to ensure fairness, maintain scheduling integrity, and protect the availability of instructors for other pupils. To cancel a lesson, you must contact your instructor directly via email or text message.

Refunds and Transfers Policy

Transferring Pre-Paid Lessons, Intensive Courses, and Services
You acknowledge and agree that driving lessons, intensive driving courses, and other services purchased in your name cannot be sold, transferred, or assigned to any other person.
All purchases are strictly personal and non-transferable. Steer and Go reserves the right to refuse any attempt to transfer or reassign lessons or services to another individual.

Booking a 1-Week Intensive / Crash Course (Options 1, 2, 3, and 4) with Steer and Go

Course Commitment and Payment

All intensive courses are non-refundable once lessons have started. By booking, you acknowledge that:

  • You have selected the start date of your course, confirming your commitment. Courses run Monday through Friday, and the start date cannot be rescheduled.
  • The service is scheduled to begin immediately upon booking and will be entered into your allocated instructor’s diary.
  • You will receive text confirmation from your allocated instructor confirming your intensive course.
  • You are fully committed to completing the course. If any lesson is changed or cancelled, that lesson will be deducted from your account. If you terminate the course, you will not be eligible for a refund.

The standard two (2) working days cancellation policy does not apply once the course has started or lessons have been delivered.

You agree that your Steer and Go driving instructor reserves the right to refuse or terminate a driving lesson if the learner driver is under the influence of alcohol or any other substance that impairs their ability to drive safely, or otherwise contravenes road safety laws.

In such circumstances, the lesson will be treated as cancelled by you, and you will be charged at your current lesson rate. No refund will be provided.

Conduct
Abusive, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. Steer and Go reserves the right to terminate the course in such circumstances without refund for lessons already delivered.

Lesson Rearrangements
In the event of a mechanical breakdown, vehicle issues, or other unforeseen circumstances, your allocated instructor may, at their discretion, rearrange a lesson at a date and time convenient to both you and the instructor.

Pickup and Drop-Off Point
The designated pickup and drop-off point for all intensive courses is: Gateshead Interchange, West Street, Gateshead, NE8 1BH

Driving Test Readiness
You acknowledge that you may need to cancel or postpone your DVSA practical driving test if you are not at a safe driving standard at the conclusion of your intensive course.

Booking the Driving Test
You should book your DVSA practical driving test no sooner than ten (10) working days from the end date of your intensive course. This ensures sufficient notice to reschedule or cancel the test without losing your test fee.
You agree that the driving instructor reserves the right to withdraw their vehicle for a driving test without notice if they consider that you are not at a satisfactory standard to take the test.

  • The instructor will provide a clear explanation for the decision and may recommend further lessons before the test is rebooked.
  • If the instructor withdraws their vehicle, you will be responsible for any test fees or charges incurred, and no refund will be provided for any lesson time or booking fees already paid.
  • You agree that the instructor’s decision is final and binding.

Additional Lessons
If additional lessons are required after your intensive course, a new allocated instructor will be provided to continue weekly sessions leading up to your test date.

Instructor Training

Steer and Go Driving School offers instructor training courses at a cost of £1,280 per course. Payment may be made either:

  • In full at the time of booking, or
  • In three instalments:
    • 1st payment: £480
    • 2nd payment (one month later): £400
    • 3rd payment (one month after the 2nd): £400

Once your payment has been received, you will be contacted within 24 hours by your allocated instructor trainer to begin organising your course.

Course Inclusions
The course includes:

  • Part 1 theory training materials
  • Part 2 driving training: 10 hours
  • Part 3 instructor ability training: 40 hours
  • Part 3 training materials

Please note: DVSA test fees are not included in the course price and must be paid separately:

  • Part 1 Test: £81.00
  • Part 2 Test: £111.00
  • Part 3 Test: £111.00

Cancellation and Refunds
Once your instructor training course has started, you are not entitled to any refund for monies already paid in the event of cancellation.
You also acknowledge and agree that:

  1. You may not cancel or rearrange any scheduled training lessons once they have been booked with your allocated instructor trainer.
  2. Steer and Go’s standard two (2) working days’ notice policy does not apply to instructor training courses.

Test Bookings

Driving Test Bookings

Practical driving test fees are determined by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

If you would like Steer and Go Driving School to book your practical driving test on your behalf, Steer and Go will be happy to do so and will charge a non-refundable booking fee of £8.00. This booking fee covers any administrative costs incurred by Steer and Go.

If you wish to cancel or rearrange a driving test that Steer and Go has booked with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) on your behalf, Steer and Go will follow the DVSA cancellation and rearrangement procedure as set out on the DVSA website.

At the time of writing, the DVSA cancellation policy states that you may cancel or rearrange your practical driving test provided you give at least ten (10) clear working days’ notice.

If you require Steer and Go to arrange the cancellation or rearrangement of a driving test on your behalf, Steer and Go will require a minimum of twelve (12) working days’ notice to do so.

For the purposes of this policy, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are not counted as working days.
All cancellation or rearrangement requests must be submitted by email to info@steerandgo.co.uk.

Theory Test Bookings

Theory test fees are determined by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA).

If you would like Steer and Go Driving School to book your theory test on your behalf, Steer and Go will be happy to do so and will charge a non-refundable booking fee of £7.00. This booking fee covers any administrative costs incurred by Steer and Go.

If you wish to cancel or rearrange a theory test that Steer and Go has booked with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) on your behalf, Steer and Go will follow the DVSA cancellation and rearrangement procedure as published on the DVSA website.

At the time of writing, the DVSA cancellation policy states that you may cancel or rearrange your theory test provided you give at least three (3) clear working days’ notice.

If you require Steer and Go to arrange the cancellation or rearrangement of any driving or theory test on your behalf, Steer and Go will require a minimum of five (5) working days’ notice to do so.

For the purposes of this policy, Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays are not counted as working days.

All cancellation or rearrangement requests must be submitted by email to info@steerandgo.co.uk.

Short Notice Driving Test Car Hire

Terms and Conditions

Service Description
This service is vehicle hire only. No driving tuition will be provided as part of this service.

Meeting and Collection Point
Vehicle collection and drop-off will take place at:
Gateshead Interchange, West Street, Gateshead, NE8 1BH

Eligibility and Driving Standard
By purchasing this service, you confirm and agree that:

  1. You have prior driving experience on UK roads; and
  2. You are able to demonstrate the skills required to be a safe and competent driver, including all required manoeuvres.

This service is intended for experienced learners who believe they are at DVSA test standard.

Vehicle Provision
Steer and Go Driving School will provide either a manual or automatic, fully insured, dual-controlled vehicle, accompanied by a fully qualified, DVSA-registered driving instructor, for insurance and test purposes only.

CCTV Recording
By proceeding with this driving test car hire, you acknowledge and agree that your driving may be recorded via CCTV, including audio and video recording inside and outside the vehicle, for evidential, safety, and insurance purposes.
All recordings are processed in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Duration and Structure of Hire
The total hire duration is three (3) hours, comprising:

  • 30 minutes to familiarise yourself with the vehicle
  • 1 hour 30 minutes mock driving test (including all manoeuvres)
  • 45 minutes for the DVSA practical driving test
  • 15 minutes to return to the meeting location

Driving Standard Assessment and Vehicle Withdrawal
By purchasing this service, you acknowledge that no tuition will be provided, as you believe you are already at the required driving standard.
You must demonstrate a safe and competent driving standard during the mock driving test. If, in the professional opinion of the instructor, you do not meet the required standard, the instructor reserves the right to withdraw the use of the vehicle for the practical driving test.
You agree that the instructor’s decision is final and binding. In such circumstances:

  • The booking will be treated as completed; and
  • No refund will be provided.

Refunds and Cancellations
Once the booking has been confirmed and entered into the instructor’s diary, no refunds or transfers will be available, except where required by law.

Steer and Go recommend that you print and retain a copy of these Terms and Conditions for your records. This includes any terms and conditions related to specific products or services you apply for online, along with any completed application forms submitted in connection with those products or services.

CCTV Recording and Data Protection
By participating in a driving lesson or driving test with Steer and Go Driving School, you acknowledge and agree that your driving may be recorded via CCTV, including audio and video inside and outside the vehicle. These recordings operate on a loop system and are stored only for a short period of time by your allocated driving instructor.
You understand that Steer and Go Driving School does not manage, store, or have access to CCTV footage. If you wish to access a recording, you must contact your allocated driving instructor directly. If your instructor no longer holds the recording, you acknowledge that Steer and Go cannot provide it.

CCTV recordings may be used for training, quality assurance, and evidential purposes.

Data Protection and Access
CCTV recordings are processed by the driving instructor in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Recordings are stored securely by the instructor and retained only for as long as necessary for the purposes described above.

Requests to access CCTV footage must be made in writing to your allocated driving instructor, who may require reasonable verification of identity before providing access.
By continuing with your driving lesson or test, you consent to the recording and processing of this data as described above.

Use of Your Image
Photography and Marketing Consent
Your Steer and Go Driving School instructor reserves the right to take photographs during your first driving lesson, upon passing your driving test, or at any promotional events, for marketing and promotional purposes.
By agreeing to the taking of such photographs, you give your explicit consent for Steer and Go Driving School and/or its instructors to use these images in print, online, on social media, or in other promotional materials.
You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting Steer and Go Driving School. Any photographs will be stored securely and processed in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Reviews – Legal Compliance
We welcome reviews. Please be aware that driving instructors are self-employed and operate under a franchise agreement with Steer and Go Driving School.
If you leave a false, misleading, or defamatory review about Steer and Go Driving School or any instructor, we reserve the right to take legal action to recover any damages caused to the company.
Legal and Regulatory Consequences (UK)

  1. Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024
Under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024 (enforced from 6 April 2025), fake or misleading reviews are illegal.
  2. CMA Penalties
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) can impose fines of up to 10% of a company’s global turnover, or up to £300,000 for individuals.
  3. Criminal Charges
In severe cases, deliberately fraudulent reviews can result in criminal prosecution.
  4. Civil Legal Action (Defamation/Malicious Falsehood)
If a review is untruthful and harms the business’s reputation, the reviewer may be sued for defamation or malicious falsehood. Potential consequences include:
    • Damages: Payment of financial compensation for harm caused to the business’s reputation.
    • Injunctions: A court order requiring the review to be removed.
    • Legal Costs: Liability for the business’s legal fees, which may be significant.
  5. Other Potential Consequences
    • Cease and Desist Letter: The business may send a formal legal notice demanding removal of the review and an apology.
    • Public Exposure: The business may publicly respond to highlight that the review is false, which could result in reputational consequences for the reviewer.

What Constitutes a Fake or Misleading Review?

  • A review not based on a genuine experience.
  • Exaggerating negative experiences with the intent to harm the business.
  • Leaving a review for a competitor to damage their reputation.
  • Incentivised reviews where payment or reward is not clearly disclosed.
